Our approach is the result of decades of exploration into the problem of self-deception by an international team of scholars. In the early 1990s, the Institute was formed to introduce their discoveries to individuals and organizations worldwide.
Arbinger was not originally meant to be a worldwide consulting firm. We began simply as a different way to explain human behavior.
A CEO who knew our academic work asked us to apply our insights to problems in his company. Our approach wasn’t created with business in mind – so it proved to be a radically new way to approach business issues.
And it proved to be very valuable - very quickly. Our CEO friend, like so many since, reported remarkably positive results.
Our consulting work grew from there by nothing more than word of mouth - and proved valuable for families and helping professionals, as well as companies and other organizations.
Our first book, Leadership and Self-Deception, was published in 2000 and quickly became an international bestseller. Launched with no fanfare when Arbinger and its work were little known, the book generated extraordinary word-of-mouth momentum. Sales are growing even today. The book is currently available in over twenty languages.
Since Leadership and Self-Deception was published, many readers have called for a book that explores our work more deeply -- and applies it to issues outside the workplace as well.
The Anatomy of Peace was written for this purpose, and helps resolve conflicts - large and small - that burden families, workplaces and communities.
