We believe that the art and structure of teaching and learning are widely misunderstood. The true contact that creates an effective student-teacher connection happens at a deeper level than typical training efforts suppose. And it requires being "out of the box."
Our courses don't deal with the mechanical elements of teaching. They focus on the deep issues at the heart of inspired - and inspiring - teaching and learning.
First developed for our own Arbinger teachers and seminar leaders, our programs are relevant for anyone in a formal or informal teaching role.
The Choice in Education
Day 1: Core Training – The Choice
Format: one 8-hour day.
The Choice is how we begin all our work. Participants learn what the box of self-deception is, how we get in it, and how to get out. They discover that self-deception is at the heart of most "people problems" and learn the extent to which we, as people, contribute to the problems we believe are caused by others.
The Choice gives participants the keys to obtaining desired results in areas such as individual growth, relationships, effective leadership, communication, conflict resolution, accountability, trust, motivation, cooperation, and student relations.
The Choice covers:
Way of Being: The Source of Influence
The Choice That Determines Way Of Being
When The Resistant Way Becomes Characteristic
The Effect Of The Resistant Way On Others
Becoming Responsive: Getting Out Of The Box
Day 2: The Choice in Teaching and Education
Format: one 8 hour day.
Day 2 is devoted to Arbinger's key implementation program for teachers and educators. Participants learn and begin to practice the application of Arbinger principles to their teaching role. They see the many ways both teachers and students can be resistant. They see how this in-the-box behavior undermines any effort to collaborate in teaching and learning. They also see solutions.
The training covers topics including:
The Principles of Responsive Teaching
These turn traditional models upside down, and can transform every teaching and learning experience into something great.
A guiding structure for Responsive Teaching
As a result of this training, teachers and administrators learn new ways to see themselves, their roles and their students. With these new ways of seeing come new ways of doing. These help teaching and learning become the enriching, fulfilling experiences they are meant to be.
